Charlotte, North Carolina shooting: 4 law enforcement officers killed, suspect dead al com

code enforcement charlotte nc

Earlier today, four brave law enforcement officers - including a Deputy U.S. Marshal - were killed in the line of duty. They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us. And we pray for the recoveries of the courageous officers who were wounded. (WBTV/Gray News) — Four law enforcement officers were killed, and four others were wounded while trying to serve an arrest warrant in a neighborhood in Charlotte.

By the same token, the description, responsibilities and duties of the code enforcement officers vary dramatically by jurisdiction and municipality. Fortunately, I’m familiar with code enforcement because many non-emergency customer service 311 centers handle these calls. Even though a part of the job does result in violations, code enforcement officers’ main objective is to ensure an attractive, lawful and safe community. From New York to Texas to Alabama, law enforcement officials have warned for years that relaxing gun laws would lead to more violence toward police. The fatal shooting of a local police officer and three members of a fugitive task force in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday seems to bear those fears out. This is a great question, and one that can not be easily answered in a simple sentence.

How To Apply

The Appendix V of the 2018 NC State Residential covers the specific code requirements for residential swimming pools & spas. The installation of swimming pools, spas, or hot tubs require zoning approval as part of the permitting process. Be sure to check with the appropriate zoning jurisdiction prior to ensure you have sufficient area on your property.

In other words, if it is not described in the code book it will need a seal. Our departmental processes are highly automated, our processes virtually paperless. We place an emphasis on data, both for our own planning and for the benefit of our customers. As part of the county's ongoing commitment to transparency, please access our statistical data and reports here. Our mission is to save lives and prevent injury by ensuring buildings in Mecklenburg County are safe and compliant with North Carolina Building Codes. While we are an enforcement agency, we view ourselves as partners with our customers, working alongside them to efficiently, effectively and collaboratively build a safe and thriving Mecklenburg County.

Special Event Permits

Yes, you can but it will need a full, masonry foundation built underneath it with a continuous concrete footing. When a deck is converted to a sunroom the windows and the roof create additional wind loads on the room which must be supported by a full foundation. The only alternative to this would be to have a NC licensed engineer design a post or pier foundation that would support the additional loading. A building permit and an electrical permit is required for this and the floor, walls and roof will have to be insulated. If the exterior door leading to this sunroom is removed, a licensed mechanical contractor will have to provide heat to the sunroom. Our Customer Service Center is designed to assist our customers through the permitting, plan review and inspection process.

The profession itself does not get as much recognition as it should for the amount of difference we make in the community. It is now more about regulating nuisances that hinder a community. As new laws emerge and new problems appear, there has to be a group that addresses these issues. The task force including U.S. marshals was trying to arrest a man for possession of a firearm by a felon.

The state of North Carolina allows you to build your own home provided you personally will reside in the home and that it is not for rent or intended for sale within one year after you complete all construction. As an option, you could choose to be the general contractor and hire all the sub-contractors to work for you. You could pull the building permit and list each licensed contractor on your permit. They would call in their own inspections, but you would be acting as the general contractor for the project and responsible for all work. You will need to submit sealed drawings, a completed Building Permit application.

Voluntary compliance is always the main goal for a code enforcement officer. An effective officer uses their words and emotional intelligence to achieve this goal. Generally speaking, a code enforcement officer is responsible for evaluating, educating and, of course enforcing local codes. This can be in the form of answering questions, issuing warnings or giving actual citations for code violations.

If you have a septic system you should also check with Mecklenburg County Environmental Health to ensure the location of the pool doesn't interfere with the septic system. Standalone trade permits can also be applied for through the online Trade Internet Permitting (TIP) program. The Trades Internet Permits (TIP) online process allows the contractor to enter details of the work being performed for projects that do not require a Building permit, pay the permit fee and print the permits. This process is for limited & specific project scopes, and the system will alert you if your scope requires you to apply using the standard permit application process. Code Enforcement works to improve the appearance of Charlotte’s communities and maintain standards of living across the city. As many laws are getting to be criminal, laws are being more relaxed.

Community Rules apply to all content you upload or otherwise submit to this site. Also known as the Queen City, Charlotte is home to the Carolina Panthers, the Charlotte Hornets and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. We work hard to ensure that the community will be a winning city for everyone – a truly remarkable place to live, work, learn and play.

It would require a building permit plus electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits, if there is plumbing involved. A plan review is not required if the total cost is less than $175,000. Stand-alone permits for minor work not requiring plan review may be issued on a case-by-case basis. Commercial trade permits are handled through the Code Information & Resource Center (CIRC).

A building setback is the required distance that a building (structure) must be located from the property lines of the adjacent property. The setbacks are determined by the appropriate zoning jurisdiction and based on the zoning district. Please contact the appropriate planning/zoning department having jurisdiction in your area. Cheerleading Worlds 2024 Results From Day 1 At Disney

I was raised in a small town called Stanley, NC. I was 8 years old and b/c of my athletic capabilities at a young age, I assumed there was no sport I couldn’t do. My mom signed me up for cheer and I went to every practice eager to learn the material, as I was determined to make the team. I practiced so much around the house; my parents would yell, “sit down”. I went in the gym with 4 other girls and put on a show, so I thought. I left out the audition feeling really good and excited about becoming a cheerleader.

Cheer Worlds is the culmination of a long cheerleading season that began in the Fall of 2023. Thousands of teams competed at a variety of qualifying events to reach Disney and it all comes to a close this weekend. Find Your Right College Fit with NCSA College Recruiting!

WE’RE CHANGING THE WAY YOU COMPETE

I was ecstatic to hear my name; “Erica” called for the varsity cheer team. After college I began working and pursuing a career for myself. Because of my love for children I decided to look into volunteer work involving the youth. In 2009 I was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach for C-Meck Cowboys. Thereafter, I became Head Coach and volunteered my services for 5yrs. There’s a quote that states, “When you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life”.

All cheerleaders and football players were told to be back at the gym at 6pm to view the roster of those who made the team. When we returned to the gym to view the roster, I took off running to the door certain my name would be on the list. I scrolled through the names very fast, but did not see my name. I decided to slow down and look carefully b/c I must have passed my name, but my name wasn’t on the Cheerleader roster.

If you’re going to be in Orlando and want to see the event in person, keep and eye on this page for spectator and ticket information. The same link also will take you to pricing for discounted tickets to the Disney theme parks, which should be posted in early April. I assumed there was a mistake and perhaps my name was on the football roster in error. I began to scroll slowly through the football player’s roster, but there was no “Erica”. After that day I never tried out for cheer again, until I got to college. My sophomore year I decided to try out for the Luv-A-Bulls cheer team, who had just won the National Championship the previous year. I worked very hard to learn the material and was determine to give it my all come audition day. Shortly after auditioning both teams, JV and Varsity were selected.

U S. House of Representatives composition by party 2023

house of representatives majority

The House also has the power to formally censure or reprimand its members; censure or reprimand of a member requires only a simple majority, and does not remove that member from office. During the first half of the 19th century, the House was frequently in conflict with the Senate over regionally divisive issues, including slavery. The North was much more populous than the South, and therefore dominated the House of Representatives.

This California congressional race is currently divided by one vote

Like the Speaker of the House, the Minority Leaders are typically experienced lawmakers when they win election to this position. When Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, became Minority Leader in the 108th Congress, she had served in the House nearly 20 years and had served as minority whip in the 107th Congress. Gephardt's predecessor in the minority leadership position was Robert Michel, R-IL, who became GOP Leader in 1981 after spending 24 years in the House.

House officers

Among them are the 20 Republicans who repeatedly voted against Mr. McCarthy for speaker, viewing him as insufficiently conservative and too cozy with the Washington establishment. Former Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, was the speaker of the House from Jan. 7 to Oct. 3, 2023. It took 15 rounds of voting to elect McCarthy into the position, the first time in more than a century that the process of electing a speaker took more than one ballot.

The committees also play an important role in the control exercised by Congress over governmental agencies. Cabinet officers and other officials are frequently summoned before the committees to explain policy. The Constitution (Article I, section 6) prohibits members of Congress from holding offices in the executive branch of government—a chief distinction between parliamentary and congressional forms of government. The House is also served by several officials who are not members. The House's chief such officer is the clerk, who maintains public records, prepares documents, and oversees junior officials, including pages until the discontinuation of House pages in 2011.

Legislative functions

Of the 435 voting seats in the House, 219 are held by Republicans. If they do, the bill does not become law unless each House, by a two-thirds vote, votes to override the veto. The largest committee of the House is the Committee of the Whole, which, as its name suggests, consists of all members of the House.

More From the Los Angeles Times

While a narrowly divided House may make passing major legislation harder, it doesn’t automatically condemn Congress to achieving nothing of significance. A review of past Congresses suggests that having same-party control of all three legislative actors – the House, Senate and presidency – certainly helps, as can the spirit of unity engendered by wars or other crises. With a narrow majority in the House, we look ahead to what Republicans can accomplish and what their control of the chamber means for the Biden administration's agenda. Special elections will be held during the 118th Congress to replace members of Congress who leave office for any reason.

Other statistics that may interest you The United States Congress

Biden has said he's open to working to Republicans, but it's hard to see many areas where they agree. The president is going to spend a majority of his time defending his signature bills from Republican efforts to roll them back or defund them. The administration's also going to face scores of investigations on things like the withdrawal from Afghanistan, border security and Biden's son Hunter's business dealings. House were held on November 3, 2020, and coincide with the 2020 presidential election. The position of Assistant Democratic Leader was established by Nancy Pelosi on January 3, 2011, and filled by Jim Clyburn to avoid a battle for whip between then-Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and then-Majority Whip Jim Clyburn. The title has undergone several name changes, with the title being known as the titular "Assistant Speaker of the House of Representatives" during Pelosi's second speakership; it is said to replace the Assistant to the Leader post first established in 1999; and previously held by Chris Van Hollen.

Office of Congressional Ethics

Two Republican senators have already said they will support the repeal effort, signaling the House bill should pass that chamber and then go to Gov. Katie Hobbs' desk to be signed into law. At the request of the Majority Leader and the House Committee on the Budget, CBO estimates the effects of those bills on direct spending and revenues. CBO has limited time to review the legislation before consideration. Although it is possible in most cases to determine whether the legislation would affect direct spending or revenues, time may be insufficient to estimate the magnitude of those effects.

The most significant role in the House of Representatives is that of speaker of the House. This individual, who is chosen by the majority party, presides over debate, appoints members of select and conference committees, and performs other important duties; speakers are second in the line of presidential succession (following the vice president). The CAO also assumed some of the responsibilities of the House Information Services, which previously had been controlled directly by the Committee on House Administration, then headed by Representative Charlie Rose of North Carolina, along with the House "Folding Room". After the conference chair, there are differences between each party's subsequent leadership ranks. After the Democratic caucus chair is the campaign committee chair (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee), then the co-chairs of the Steering Committee.

The redrawing of district lines resulted in the inclusion of a large number of liberal and gay voters in the Palm Springs area. Rollins is gay and regularly campaigns with his husband; Calvert has a history of voting against LGBTQ+ interests and his allies outed a Democratic rival in a 1994 campaign. Calvert, who said his view on gay rights has evolved and he now supports same-sex marriage, beat Rollins by fewer than 5 points last year, a result that may prompt national Democrats to invest in the race. We need to have the candidates who can message, knock on doors and can generate voter enthusiasm and who can deliver these votes,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Redlands), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Voters will have two separate elections in the span of two weeks for the seat.

The minority party opposes initiatives of the majority party and offers its own proposals as substitutes. From a party perspective, the minority leader has a wide range of partisan assignments, all geared toward retaking majority control of the House. Five principal party activities direct the work of the minority leader.

Republicans turn to 2023 with narrow House majority : NPR

house of representatives majority

As conceived by the framers of the Constitution, the House was to represent the popular will, and its members were to be directly elected by the people. In contrast, members of the Senate were appointed by the states until the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment (1913), which mandated the direct election of senators. About a half dozen political experts who spoke with The Times said that many members of the Republican caucus have learned there is value in being antagonistic and refusing to compromise — a harbinger of more chaos to come. And there are also 20 lawmakers who in 2021 bucked Mr. Trump and the rest of the party by voting to impeach him or to form an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Information about travel-related expenses incurred by representatives who are reimbursed by non-government sources. Information about certain expenditures for all official foreign travel by representatives and staff.

Nearly three-quarters of Republican House members who did not run for re-election or who lost their primaries in 2022 voted to impeach Mr. Trump or to form the Jan. 6 commission. Almost all of that group also voted to certify the 2020 Electoral College results, in defiance of Mr. Trump and a vast majority of House Republicans. Mainly tilting toward the other end of the spectrum are the 18 Republicans who represent districts that Joseph R. Biden Jr. won in 2020.

U.S. House of Representatives composition 1983-2023, by party

For the Republicans it is the chair of the House Republican Policy Committee, followed by the campaign committee chairman (styled as the National Republican Congressional Committee). Procedurally, they also are responsible for sending out notices to the Representatives from their respective parties regarding the floor schedule, providing membership with copies of bills and reports and authoring their parties’ official positions on legislation up for debate. The House Majority Leader—who is also chosen from among the membership of the political party with the most seats in the House—schedules time for floor debate on legislation and sets the legislative strategy for the party in control.

The Republican House majority leader is Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise. Rep. Mike Johnson, the newly-elected Speaker of the House, is also a Louisiana Republican. The embattled representative also faces several federal charges, including money laundering, wire fraud, identity theft, credit card fraud and lying to Congress. A House Ethics Committee report found evidence he broke federal laws and misused campaign funds. The House of Representatives is down one Republican after 311 members voted to expel New York Republican Rep. George Santos.

Here’s what results in key California House races look like so far

While their role has fluctuated over the years, today they have many of the same privileges as voting members, have a voice in committees, and can introduce bills on the floor, but cannot vote on the ultimate passage of bills. Presently, the District of Columbia and the five inhabited U.S. territories each elect a delegate. A seventh delegate, representing the Cherokee Nation, has been formally proposed but has not yet been seated.[30] An eighth delegate, representing the Choctaw Nation is guaranteed by treaty but has not yet been proposed. Additionally, some territories may choose to also elect shadow representatives, though these are not official members of the House and are separate individuals from their official delegates. But since neither party had a majority, the balance of power was held by four representatives from minor parties – two Progressives, a Socialist and a Prohibitionist. They joined with the Democrats and the “independent Progressive Republican” to reelect Champ Clark of Missouri as speaker, thus enabling the Democrats to – just barely – retain control of the chamber, by a margin of less than half a percentage point.

‘Rivers in the sky’ have drenched California, yet even more extreme rains are possible

And the spectacle created by Republican lawmakers at the State of the Union address showed the unruly behavior of some in the G.O.P. rank and file that is becoming a new normal. Elected by their peers, certain representatives hold positions that combine institutional, administrative and partisan roles. Katherine ClarkAssists leadership in managing party's legislative program. Tom EmmerAssists leadership in managing party's legislative program. On Oct. 3, McCarthy was voted out as speaker, becoming the first speaker in U.S. history to be removed from the role during a legislative session.

Beyond the partisan sound and fury, there are also several fiercely competitive local House races in overwhelmingly Democratic districts, including the battles to fill departing Reps. Adam B. Besides the representative from each state, there are a small number of delegates and a resident commission. Elected by the whole of the House of Representatives, the Speaker acts as leader of the House and combines several institutional and administrative roles. Rep. Mike Johnson, R-LA, was sworn in as the 56th speaker of the House seat on Oct. 25. Here is what you need to know about the House in the 118th Congress.

house of representatives majority

In the House of Representatives, the legislative schedule (which defines when bills are debated and voted upon) is set by the body’s leader, known as the Speaker of the House. The Speaker, who is chosen among the membership of the political party with the most seats in the House, establishes the legislative priorities for the body and presides over the deliberation of bills under consideration. To regain control of the House, Democrats needed a pick-up of 15 seats. According to original analysis by Ballotpedia, only 26 congressional districts were predicted to be competitive in 2014.

Anti-slavery Democrats refused to vote for their caucus’ nominee, Howell Cobb of Georgia, while the Whig nominee, Robert Winthrop of Massachusetts, lost both pro- and anti-slavery members of his own caucus. Another complicating factor was the presence of nine members from the Free Soil Party, the only unequivocally anti-slavery party at the time. In the end, the House could break the deadlock only by abandoning the majority-vote requirement entirely. For each Congress, we took as our reference point the first day the House actually convened to organize itself and begin its legislative work.

However, the Constitution states, "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives." Because of the Origination Clause, the Senate cannot initiate bills imposing taxes. This provision barring the Senate from introducing revenue bills is based on the practice of the British Parliament, in which only the House of Commons may originate such measures. Furthermore, congressional tradition holds that the House of Representatives originates appropriation bills. Representatives use the prefix "The Honorable" before their names.

We calculated the difference between the majority- and minority-party shares of the House’s total voting membership; to make the differences comparable across Houses of varying size, we then expressed them in percentage-point terms. Any difference of less than 5 percentage points was considered a “narrow majority” for the purposes of this analysis. In a handful of cases where the majority comprised an alliance of two or more parties, we used that total instead. A whip manages their party's legislative program on the House floor. The whip keeps track of all legislation and ensures that all party members are present when important measures are to be voted upon.

In the 2022 elections, Republicans took back control of the House, winning a slim majority. Sragow attributes the number of competitive congressional seats in California to the state’s independent map-drawing process for political boundaries, including congressional districts, approved by voters in 2010 to replace the traditional partisan maps previously created by lawmakers. Most congressional districts across the country are still determined by state lawmakers who often try to tailor the maps to their political advantage if they hold power in their legislatures. A further dominating element of House organization is the committee system, under which the membership is divided into specialized groups for purposes such as holding hearings, preparing bills for the consideration of the entire House, and regulating House procedure. Almost all bills are first referred to a committee, and ordinarily the full House cannot act on a bill until the committee has “reported” it for floor action.

That was a key element for community groups around the terminal’s Red Hook neighborhood to start pushing for shore power. Beyond the infrastructure cost, the project was delayed by haggling over the price of electrical power – in an era where cheap fuel prices made shipboard generation more economical. The power costs are subsidized in part by the EDC and the New York Power Authority, with terminal user Carnival Corp picking up the rest. As part of an agreement, Carnival Corporation pays USD 12 cents per kilowatt-hour for shorepower. Today's Birthdays - Enjoy your day!

We sailed the second sailing and based on that I would have told anyone to run far far away from Infinity. Dinner near three hours most nights, just a few bar servers on the pool deck and only two bartenders at the pool bar so it was a long wait. No 'large' martini glasses so the martinis were half of their normal size.

Literally we watched them sit, take menus and then get up to move tables... So we waited almost 25 minutes for our table for 2. Then the waiter came right over and said "do you know what you want" we were like ummm no we haven't opened the menus, how about a cocktail first?

Dinner in the main dining room was very nice. The steak Diane was delish as well as the lobster an beef wellington. Soups were good, salads fresh and always happy to give you extra vegetable instead of potatoes. After embarkation concierge lunch sandwiched in-between two tables of 2 (so we were actually a table of 6 lol) we asked for a table for 2 not close to anyone. Our wish was granted each night with a lovely, quiet table by the stairs.

More about Celebrity Edge

We also had a lot of issues with the shower in my cabin, it seemed to be leaking and every time the shower ran the carpet would get wet next to the bed. They offered to bring an industrial blower in but there was already no room in the cabin and I never could have slept with that. I sailed on INFINITY almost 20 years ago to Hawaii and loved it. Happy to return in September with some friends.

We both were on the Edge last year and while it's beautiful, we prefer the smaller ships. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Find your Celebrity Millennium Roll Call by choosing your sailing month from the drop down menu below. And the Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet isn't just a tender platform. It can be positioned on Decks 5 and 14, where it serves as an eatery or bar. Cool sophistication is the unmistakable vibe onboard Celebrity Reflection, the biggest of the five ships in the line's mega-popular Solstice Class.

While on the topic of cleaning and maintenance... We found several "lights out" around the ship.... One light in the stairwell and one in one of the ladies rooms.

But those who appreciate stylish, contemporary design will fall in love. In a few short years, Celebrity Edge has become a favorite for many adult cruisers seeking a sophisticated experience. While at max capacity the ship can hold up to 3,609 passengers, Reflection rarely feels crowded, as passengers tend to find their own spaces to hang out in. It's also well designed, and favorite spots like the excellent thermal spa are capacity controlled. Thanks for posting your thoughts. I'm sailing Infinity next month and am looking forward to a nice, relaxing cruise.

The crew was constantly cleaning. Cleaning the stairwells, the pool deck, the Oceanview Cafe, the casino. Public areas were very well maintained. I could tell some carpets were new, some cabins updated ( I did look into a suite on our floor and it had new carpet, bedding and beautiful dark cherry finishes). It seems they continue to work on updates as they are sailing. I am sorry we don't have any of the planners.

Food is good but again staffing issues made the meal slow. Ocean view Cafe for lunch was fantastic. Wonderful salad bar and YES there is a fish and chips day. I tried the fish but did not care for the breading, too soggy and too much of it. I pulled it away and put the fish on my salad and it was delish!

We enjoy open seating and we do actually enjoy sitting with tablemates, but I think the Open Seating doesn't allow you to sit with the same people each night. So we feel like you are interviewing for a new job each evening. LOL  Martini Bar was a hot spot and the drinks were wonderful.

Can You See The Northern Lights From A Cruise Ship? The Best Cruises for Viewing the Northern Lights

best time to cruise alaska to see northern lights 2023

Within minutes it seemed everyone on board had gathered at the railings on deck to watch. The captain of the ship nimbly repositioned us, giving both the port and starboard sides prime viewing, at a safe and respectful distance from the animals. With binoculars, cameras, and phones at the ready, the passengers and crew aboard UnCruise Adventures' 86-guest S.S. Legacy settled in for what turned out to be an hour-long private show by a juvenile humpback who had migrated from Hawaii to spend the summer in the nutrient-rich Alaskan waters. The Alaska cruise season is a little over six months long, but choosing the best time to cruise Alaska is surprisingly not that simple. The best time to see Northern Lights in Alaska is when daylight slips into a seasonal slumber and the darkened skies blanket the city below.

When’s the Best Time to See the Northern Lights on an Alaska Cruise?

The city is full of modern conveniences and there are many Fairbanks northern lights tours. There is also an Alaska igloo hotel 25 miles from Fairbanks, known as the Borealis Basecamp. You'll likely get to Coldfoot on an organized tour, and if you fly to Utqiaġvik, your accommodations will also act as a local tour guide.

Alaska Cruise in September: Alaska Temperatures Start to Drop

Alaska also boasts a stunning variety of wildlife—think seals, sea otters, eagles, mink, porpoises, and mountain goats, to name a few. Search for brown bears in Red Bluff Bay against a backdrop of towering red mountains and waterfalls or along the shores of Chichagof Island. Observe a sea lion haulout (when they gather on the banks to rest) and puffin rookery in the Marble Islands, or go whale watching in Fredericks Sound, Stephens Passage, or Chatham. No matter your itinerary, UnCruise helps guests witness incredible creatures in their natural habitats, creating memories that will last a lifetime. You’re also more likely to see them if you visit in colder months, as the most brilliant displays occur both in dark and cold environments. Because it’s a scientific phenomenon beyond the comprehension of modern science, you can only truly predict occurrences of the Northern Lights roughly two hours before they happen.

Seeing the Northern Lights is one of those magical experiences on nearly every traveler’s bucket list due to the surreal way light moves in waves of green color across the nighttime sky. With its scenic landscapes, abounding wildlife, and majestic glaciers, Alaska is a beautiful destination any time of year. But if you’re thinking of exploring this vibrant region on an Alaskan cruise, the best time to do so is between May and September.

Fairbanks, A Northern Lights Favorite

The Northern Lights occur when charged particles from the sun collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, producing colorful displays of light. The colors are determined by the type of gas and the altitude at which the collision occurs. The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are caused by electrically charged particles from the sun colliding with atoms and molecules in the Earth’s atmosphere. This collision releases energy in the form of vibrant, dancing lights that can be seen in the polar regions.

Hike some of the trails to catch a glimpse of the northern lights in Alaska. During the winter, clear dark skies and aurora activity make Juneau an ideal spot to witness the stunning northern lights display. It consistently tops the list of places in Alaska and the world to catch the dazzling display and it’s not because the dancing green lights just happen to favor this gold rush boomtown.

What Countries Do You Visit On a Northern Lights Cruise?

Ice crampons may come in handy, especially in ports where walkways may be icy or slick. On some active excursions, outfitters provide weather appropriate gear, but you can’t always count on that. And don’t forget your bathing suit for outdoor tub soaks and pool swims onboard.

How to Increase Your Chances of Seeing the Lights?

A mythic journey along the scenic St. Lawrence River and out to the Atlantic, this Concierge Cruise is a cultural immersion into Québec, Newfoundland and the Maritimes. We tried different cruise ship cabins to see how they compared

Given that the price of a junior suite can sometimes be nominally more than a balcony room, many people book junior suites simply for the extra space or double points. A daily stateroom attendant dedicated to making sure your stay is spectacular. Nightly turn down service so you can rest easy before the next day’s adventures. Whether you’re traveling with kids, a group of fellow explorers, or require any kind of specialized services, we’ve thought of all the creature comforts you’d expect during your vacation — plus a few more. The Ultimate Family Suite is part of the Star tier, the highest in our Royal Suite Class collection. Spacious Ocean View

Much like the inside staterooms, oceanview cabins are on the inexpensive side and provide guests with an affordable means of being on the ship and still have a view. Natural light is important to many guests, and the ocean view provides that. Essentially, oceanview rooms are slightly larger inside rooms with a window. When you've got extended family traveling with you, consider the memory-making fun you can have in a Villa Suite that's chock-full of amenities. Designed to accommodate up to 14 people, this is one of the most spacious and best suites available onboard the Oasis and Quantum Class Fleets. These four-bedroom suites are equipped with two master bedrooms and bathrooms, bedrooms with twin beds that sleep four people, two pullman beds and a pull-out sofa bed in the living room.

Ocean View Staterooms

Between the few that are available and the surging demand for suites, they are typically the first category to sell out. If you want a suite, you will want to book a cruise as early as possible. There are small, inside cabins that will get you on the cruise at a reasonable price to huge suites that add more benefits than you can probably use on a sailing. No matter which ship you choose, you'll find inexpensive windowless "inside" cabins that are small, but practical, to opulent and sprawling suites that seem more like an apartment. Forward suites provide the same view as from the Navigation Bridge (wheelhouse).

BEST LUXURY AND STANDARD CRUISE SHIP ACCOMMODATIONS

Small Interior Stateroom (as the name implies) is the least spacious standard cabin category on cruise ships. These cabins have two beds – (upper and lower), private bath (WC/shower), a small sitting area. They are usually larger in comparison to balcony staterooms and feature more amenities. As a rule, suites have a full-size bathtub, larger shower, bigger closets and balcony (some have 2 private balconies). Amenities include coffee makers, premium sound systems, large-size TVs, complimentary butler service.

With two rooms, parents can enjoy a treat in luxury after their kids have gone to bed. Owner's Suites are some of the most luxurious accommodations at sea. Some Owner's Suites (like NCL's) can accommodate up to 10 passengers when connected to an adjacent Suite. Royal Caribbean also offers two other types of balcony rooms that actually face inward towards the ship, instead of outwards to the ocean.

When you are traveling with children, having that extra space really makes a difference. If you are wondering if booking a balcony room is worth the extra money compared to an inside room, here are a few good reasons to move up to a balcony. Traditionally, a balcony room means you have a view of the ocean. Balcony rooms are situated on the outer portion of the ship, with the ability to look out from your room to the ocean. While there are many more benefits that you can take advantage of, these are the core perks that nearly everyone in a suite usually takes the most advantage of during their cruise.

Similar to how first class on an airplane is a plusher experience than coach, staying in a suite provides lots of extras that are very nice to have access to while onboard. If you have kids and want separation from them, there are a few suites on the higher end that offer multiple bedrooms in one cabin. Junior suites may not have all the benefits, but all that extra living space sure is nice to have, especially a full bathtub. The primary benefits of Sky Class suites are complimentary internet access, suite lounge access, and Coastal Kitchen meals. When booking your cruise online, you’ll have the chance to select your room, doing side-by-side comparisons of their amenities, occupancy, and configurations before making your decision. If you’d like some guidance, connect with an expert Royal Caribbean vacation planner by phone, our website, or your local travel agent.

Being on the Promenade meant the cabin could potentially be noisy during the evenings, but mentioned how most of the loud music seemed to end around midnight each night. With updated decor and furnishings, Nicole felt the updated room was a major plus of staying in her particular cabin. Regardless of these few cons, Allie wouldn’t hesitate to book the “suite” again. Allie mentioned Suite Lounge access as one of the best benefits of the Ben & Jerry’s Sweet.

On a Royal Caribbean cruise, there really is no bad way to cruise. From budget-friendly interior rooms to luxurious suites for the whole family, Royal Caribbean has it all. No matter how you travel, though, you'll have access to incredible amenities, on-board activities and in-room splendor, all designed to make this vacation the best you've ever had.

That is not to say the view from your balcony is completely obstructed, just partially. Boardwalk balcony rooms have a view of the Boardwalk neighborhood, while Central Park balcony rooms have a view of the Central Park neighborhood. Many even have a baby grand piano in the foyer, and usually have a hot tub on the balcony. The photos don't do the room justice in terms of how much fun they packed into a single cabin, but the price tag may curb your enthusiasm. Junior suite guests can dine in Coastal Kitchen but only for dinner, subject to avaibility.

This is Sky — spectacular accommodations, attentive service and exclusive experiences. As Sky Class guests, you have access to a Concierge who crafts your personal adventures, from restaurant reservations to recommendations for shopping or dining at ports of call. Simply browse through stateroom options and select the amount that you’re willing to pay for the upgrade. Then, you’ll be notified via email if your bid has been accepted. From Ocean View and Balcony staterooms to the most expansive suites at sea, the possibilities are endless. Ft. and offer a 1.5-metre turning radius in sleeping areas, plus bathrooms and sitting areas for easy manoeuvrability.

While they have a window that lets natural light flood in, they are still deemed interior because they face the inside of the ship. Her centrally-located cabin meant she didn’t feel any motion during the sailing while being close to the amenities and activities near the Royal Promenade.
